Who do you think you would vote for the president?

Compared to vote for president, vote for the sexiest artist, the most beautiful singer or girl, is much easier. That’s what all the members of the local drinking club think. They guarantee that there will be no fight or debate; only ‘naughty’ smiles on their faces.

When talking about presidential election, there would be a long discussion. Everybody would beat their chest and try to show that his opinion is the right one. It would difficult to achieve consensus. Do not expect they would get consensus, to make the discussion runs smoothly is already a good thing.

“Voting for the sexiest artist, the most beautiful singer or girl is very easy as the qualifications are very clear. As long as her waist and bum look like bee, her boobs look like ‘hanging arms’, and she has beautiful smile, has hot swinging of the hips, so you could consider her as a sexy girl. If she has beautiful voice, than she might be a great singer,” says I Made Aduh Jaruh (I Made Husky Voice).

“But qualifications for the president are very difficult.”

From ‘good-looking’ point of view, of course SBY is the best, but if you refer to ‘beautiful’, then you should vote Méga. If you prefer a leader with nice moustache and funny, then JK is the one.

“Shit! Are you going to vote for president or photo model? What you are talking all about physical things, “ I Putu Patikacuh (I Putu Speak Out Frankly) interrupts.

You should vote based on their program; whose programs are the best, good for the people, and for the country as well. That’s the one we should vote.

“That’s where we find it difficult! From the program point of view, each claim that they are the best, the most beneficial to the people and country,” I Madé argues.

SBY-Boediono admits that they come from common families and they advertise their parents’ houses which are similar to other people’s house. However it seems that they don’t want to show their current houses with the pools and garages. In the political ads, SBY sit down with farmers, teachers, fishermen and say thank you to them. He acts as if he was Soeharto during the old order regime and thinks that the people like to be thanked.

Mega-Prabowo claims advertise that they are ‘pro-people’. That’s why they declare their team at Bantar Gebang, a rubbish disposing place in Bekasi. However Méga never mentions how many times she has come there and how many rubbish collectors Prabowo knows there. They claim theirselves as anti-neoliberal, but they forget that many national companies were sold during Méga’s terms.

On the other hand, JK-Wiranto are busy visiting traditional markets, and buy various things from them, JK shows his shoes which are made in Indonesia and tell people to stop being depended to foreign countries, and should build this country with our own strength. However they forget to mention where they will get funds to support the development. This country has nothing unless it borrows from overseas. If this country tries to be self-reliant, a lot of people will not agree as Indonesian people are not ready to suffer.

“I would think that their programs are all the same, not really clear. All claim that they would fight against poverty, but they never say how they will achieve the goals. All claim that they will decrease education cost, but in fact is that schools are expensive every where now.

When they deliver speech in front of their supporters, they all beat their chests, each claiming that he is the one who can be the best leader in this country. They will besmirch their competitors. However in the formal debate, they just agree one another.

“I agree with Ibu Mega,” says SBY.

“I also agree with Pak JK’s opinion,” SBY says.

“What Pak SBY says is similar to what I have in mind,” JK replies.

The question is that if what they have in their minds are the same, that they want to create welfare for the people, why would they compete for presidency?

If their programs are the same, and what they have in their mind are same as well, which one should we vote: “Pro Rakyat” (Pro People), “Lanjutkan” (Continue!) or “Lebih Cepat Lebih Baik?” (The Sooner the Better).
