A special dance performance for the extended Cobden family at Villa Gajah Putih in Canggu, featuring Yang Pung’s All Stars Gamelan and Ibu Ketut Arini’s tiny tot dancers
Watching the magical performance, I had a flash: perhaps the Chinese influence in Balinese dance costume and architectures comes original from Majapahit and not from Singaraja (North Bali).
Majapahit at its height was a very cosmopolitan/international town; with Chinese, Arab and Indian (priestly) quarters; Islam and Hindu existed side by side for a hundred years before the last Hindu King Brawijaya Pamungkas fled to the slopes of Gunung Lawu.
